ALLEGED AUSTRALIAN SCANDALS. ALFRED KIDMAN'S PROTEST. SYDNEY, May 27. In connection with yesterday's cable stating that High Court indictments have been issued against Alfred Kidman and others, charged with alleged conspiracy to defraud the Australian Defence authorities, Kidman publishes a statement in the Press to-day He protests vehemently against the Department permitting the publication of the indictments, more especially as the matter is sub judice, and the papers cannot giv e his side of the question. He points out that only after failure for months to obtain payment of moneys due to him, and after he had issued a writ for nearly £9OOO and notified the Department about the issue of writs for about £SOOO more, the proceedings in question were instituted. H e adds that the public will be astonished when they learn of the treatment he has received. In spite of the matters in question, he is still by far the largest contractor of food-stuffs for the military forces.
