ENTERTAINMENTS.
TOWN HALL PICTURES. A very fair house was present at this place of amusement last night, when a capital programme was submitted. An exhibition of sharp axe swinging by Fred Driseall, the New Zealand champion, and a farce entitled “The ' Wicked Barber,” by local artists, were two items given in addition to the pictures. The axe-swinging was a very clever piece of work, and the humourous item caused considerable amusement. The proceeds -were in aid of the local Returned Soldiers’ Fund. Mr. H. Bailey thanked the audience for attending and stated that this was only concert of many that he hoped to inaugurate for this fund. To-night a really splendid picture :s to be screened, entitled “The Master Spy.” It deals with the life of Harry Thompson, a young naval architect, who lives beyond his means, and later falls into the clutches of a moneylender. The introduction of Mabel, his sweetheart, into the story, forms an undercurrent of love and. makes a picture that is generally popular. Other good pictures will also be shown. ' - KING’S THEATRE. The startling and dramatic film, “Theft of the Crown Jewels,” is drawing large houses to this theatre, and it is a picture that holds the attention of the audience right from the beginning. The popular actress, Alice Joyce, is taking the leading part and her fine interpretation of the character is deserving of high praise. In this piece £200,000 worth of jewellery is displayed and worn by this actressj It is an all-round good programme and the last serening is to-night.
THREE STARS THEATRE. A good house was present last night at this theatre to witness the dramatic film, “His First Case.” It is a romance of the Customs Service and deals with the efforts of detecti\es to run the smugglers to earth. How this is accomplished through the instrumentality of the heroine and everything brought to a satisfactory conclusion is realistiealy told in this picture. It is well worth seeing. The Keystone is a good comedy, and a film showng vaudeville acts is also a good one. The programme is screened for the last time io-night.
