THE BAILIFF'S BLACK EYE. The following letter was read at Farnham County Court from James Flint, motor engineer, of Shottermill, Haslemere, who was fined £5 for giving a black eye to a bailiff of the Court, and ordered to attend the next Court I on a charge of contempt: —"I did not J attend on the 3rd inst, being away on transport duty. I cannot attend in March, as I expect to be in France with the Mechanical Transport Section, A.S.C. Kindly tell the Judge it is one thing to heavily fine me and another to make me paj r . I neither fear God nor man, nor devil, let alone a County Judpc and if at any future time .'. bailiff attempts to put a summons intended for a diffeVent person in my pocket, I promise him two black eyes. I They are cheap at th.e price as assessed by his Honour.''
