Many of the civilians at Elevdinghe, Boisinghe, and Namertinghe died from hemorrhage of the lungs due to the poisonous gases. Though the battle at Ypres continues bloodily, the enemy now shows signs of weakening owing to the Allies' vigorous attacks. Further south they are also exhausted by the ferocious efforts. The British, encouraged by their successful defence, vigorously advanced past Ypr.es and re-captured some ground lost earlier in the week.
