ENTERTAINMENTS.

TOWN HALL PICTURES. A GOOD PROGRAMME. The current programme at this theatre .consists of several but the pride of place must be given to the picture "The Poor Relation." The story is one of deep pathos, and full of human interest. It Is a drama of stirring interest and. is well deserving of applause. The programme also contains a very interesting scenic, "Highways of England," and it is not without its share of comics. To-morrow night (Sunday) a special programme will be shown, when the principal picture will be "The Power of the Cross." It is a very fine story and the general production of the film entitles it to be classed amongst the standard productions. Other good pictures will also be shown to-morrow night.- The management have arranged for a militaryweek, commencing on Monday, with a mammoth, all British production. It deals with the present European war, and is the production of Charles Weston, the producer of ".The -'Battle of Waterloo" and "Called to-the Front." With: such- a programme as will be shown to-morrow night, a good house is practically assured.

KING'S THEATRE. •Jj The attendance at this centre of amiisement was well maintained last night and the programme submitted contained several excellent pictures. The first part of the evening is devoted to dramatic and educational subjects. The star film of the evening is of course "Tess of the Storm Country T and it is indeed a splendid picture. Owing to its length two parts are shown be fore the interval and the remaining parts take up the rest of the ~ of the evening to screen. The story is too long to give a synopsis, and, indeed, any such account of the picture would rob the story of a great deal of its charm. . It is a story pulsating with human interest and the* great sacrifice made by Tess, as depicted in the film, is only one of the many enthralling incidents portrayed. A splendid house greeted its first appearance in New . Zealand, and the story has won popular favour wherever it has been shown. The character of Tess is taken by Mary Pickford, the famous photoplay ' actress, and her beautiful rendering of the character will be long remembered ;by all who witness this fine picture. This film will be screened again tonight. . ■'CHARLEY'S AUNT." -- The coming production of ••■Charley's Aunt" will no doubt be lookeclb forward to with keen interest, as it is so well-known as a rib-tickler. People who don't want to laugh are advised.to stay away for to see this play and not'-laugh—well, one must be seriously - in heed of a doctor. The success which •• has attended the Charley's Aunt Com- -. edy Comany through New Zealand has been phenomenal. The humour of the, play is clean and wholesome and keeps . the in shrieks of laughter from the rise to the fall of the cur:.. tain. The following is the Auckland Star's report: "An audience the size of which and the merriemnt of which are rarely exceeded in Auckland, wit* nessed the third production of the comedy, "Charley's Aunt," at His Majesty's Theatre on Saturday night. His Excellency the Governor (the Earl of Liverpool) and the Countess of Liverpool, were present, accompanied by their suite. The arrival oi the viceregal party was the signal for a patriotic demonstration. Throughout the evening the Company sustained the reputation achieved in the earlier per- - formances and their efforts were re* warded with flattering applause." The box plan and day sales are &i Finch's.
