AN APPEAL.

(To the Editor). Sir, —In conversation with Mr W. J. Jorgensen yesterday he stressed the point that New Zealand may at any moment expect the return of those of her troops \\ hose injuries a,re too cus to admit of their rejoining the colours. Already the .casualties arje heavier than the majority of us e«j pected, and the magnitude and difm culty of the Dardanelles operations reuder s it rertain that considerable casualty lists are to be expected in the future.

What ar e w e going to do to render easier, nay, even pleasant, the lot of those who have fought for u s and have be.ea wounded? Only money can procure little luxuries, lighten the tedium of convalescence, and dissipate the worry of not knowing w'here where witaal to make a fresh start is to come from; .and a very considerable suum will be required, and here I reach t)he point and object of this lettojr, Mr Jorgensen has handed m e MS cheque for One hundred guineas fog the aforementioned objects, conditionally upon nine other persons itf the District subscribing a similar sunS each. Here is a start —an example to follow, and I shall b e glad to heaE f(rom any person who is willing to be one of the otjher nine subscribers. If must be clearly understood that th'Q fund is for New Zealand troopers front any part of th e Dominion, and there is nothing parochial about it, except that if the condition of fMr Jorgensen’s offer be fulfilled; to this District will belong the credit of having initiated the fund, and started it on it s way over £IOOO. Th e monkey if forthcoming, as it should b,e, seeing that war prices have placed many unexpected hundreds in the pockets of our farmers, will be administered by the Government.—l am, etc., A. D. ARROWSM^TH
