AT THE FRONT.
ALL NEW ZEALAND FORCES IN FIRING LINE What sections of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force are facing the enemy in the Gallipoli Peninsula? This question, often heard, but never officially answered, was put to the Minister of Defence to-day by your correspondent, who sudceeded in extracting information. “1 am rather inclined to think, though I am not going to say for certain,” replied the Hon. James Allen, “that the bulk of our men are there or on their way. I doubt whether many have been left in Egypt. General Godley has been at the scene of the fighting for some time, and I have good reason to believe that the mounted men are there, too, but perhaps without their horses
“Casualty lists have disclosed the fact that the third reinforcements had their share of the fighting.” The Minister was asked if the fourth draft would go straight into the firing line. His answer was in the negative. “The fourth reinforcement,” he said, “will go to Egypt and put in a couple of months’ training before going to the front.”
