On and after the 15th May new rates of freight on New Zealand produce will bo in operation on all direct lines. The new rates show a substantial advance on previous rates, but still below those ruling in Australia for similar cargo. Mr Massey stated this morning that the Dairy Commisioner was of opinion that sufficient butter was in the Doinin. ion for requirements and more could be shipped to Vancouver and England this season. The ; Department will ascertain exactly what has been dene by way of export and any attempt to increase the price will ba followed by absolute prohibition of export.
