OPERATION FATAL TO DOCTOR. Immediately after he and Dr Frank Fitzgibbonjhad completed an operation upon the son of John Maier, at 207, Chenery Street. San Francisco, and while the patient was still under the influence o fthe anaesthetic.Dr Henry H. Hart, one of the oldest practitioners in the city, dropped dead beside the operating table. Heart disease was the cause of death. CHINESE "TONG" WAR. The war of the Suey Sing.tong and the Sen Suey Yings in San Francisco resulted in another murder on March 10. Lim Sum Toy, a member of the former being killed by three assassins in front of 739, Jackson Street. The headquarters of the Ping King tong, believed by the police to ihave allied themselves with the Sen Suey ings, was raided and twenty revolvers with 1000 rounds of ammunition found. A CARELESS POLICEMAN. For insolence to his superior officer, Policeman Getorge W. Clark of San Francisco has been transferred to the lngleside station. Captain of Police Glneson found resorts running wide open on Clark's beat, and when he asked tihe patrolman for an explanation Clark said: "Aw, I'm not watchin' these places any too close." When the matter was reported to Chief White), the chief concluded that Clark should be sent cut wftaare he could watch the crops grow.
PLOT TO WRECK A LINER. Charges agaim-t Hans Halle arrested at Now Orleans in Decmber in connection with a plot to blow up a French liner, were dismissed by the Criminal Court, but the State appealed and he was ordered to be held in custody.He admitted he made a bomb with the intention o putting it on a French ship leaving New York for Havre; but the court decided he had violated no Louisiana law. Three other men arrested with him have already been released.
LAW AGAINST "BEAUTY FAKERS." Kansas women under 45 years of ag e who wear earrings or treat their laces with cosmetics "for the purpose of creating a false impression" will be guilty of misdemeanours and upon conviction be subject to fines, if a bill introduced in the Lower House of the Legislature becomes a law.
