"GO FORWARD."

j (.To the Editor) j Dear Sirs. —Settlement, more settle'ment! With that part of Mr Massey's j expounded policy I agree. .What is 1 the cause of the rapid increase of our exports which in a few years rose I from £11,000,000 to say £24,000.000. I Settlement or the wise and liberal land legislation which has resulted j in the opening up and development of the country? W r e must go forward for i much remains to be clone. The premise made by Dr A. P. Newman, in the Gretna Hall, Taihape, in 1911 must b e fulfilled. The Hen. W. P Reeves, speaking as a Minister of the Crown, once said to the people of New Zeajland: "If you 'hope to sat anything

■from thg Government you must agitata, agitate, agitate." That, Mr Editor, is exactly what-1 want the businessmen and tradesmen, indeed all the citizens .of Taihape to do Agitate until I see a butter and cheese factory, a large school with a daily attendance of 40 or 50 bright, happy, smiling children. Why not a church, a store and all the accessories which make for the building up of a thriving and prosperous ; village and neighbourhood.* Where is this village to be founded? Where a more ideal spot than the corner near Pungataua Bridge? From there roads lead through some of the most magnificent land in the district and admirably adapted for closer settlement. To the people of Taihape I say this evening: Shift, shake yourselves; get a mov e en. Just for the time never mind Californian Thistles, or Mr Allen's £3QCI(O). loan. Shake up. Dr Newman asd the Government; shake up everyone you meet; agitate, agitate until you get what must ultimately prove a boon and benefit to the Dominion and yourselves Closer settlement at Pungataua Bridge.—l am. etc., FRED OVERTON. Taoroa.
