CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. TliO annual the Chamber of Commerce was adjourned a fortnight ago till to-night, and as no public intimation has been given 'of further adjournment it may be presumed that the meeting will take place. From what transpired at last meeting it is very apparent that the Chamber of Commerce has been a useful institution and that it has been'the medium by which many convenience's have been furnished to the townspeople of an important character., In most towns," as 'in Taihape, a. Cham-, be.r of Commerce is the only organisation whose deliberations can include anything and everything touching the progress of the town ;uid its surrounding territory. The past of the Taihape Chamber has demonstrated that fact, for questions affecting roads, railway cattle yards, travelling conveniences/ postal, and telephone facilities, matters of trade, and numerous minor "matters have successfully been dealt with, any one of which, would justify the existence of the Chamber and the most loyal support of .every business-man in the tow.m J\Ve'wish particularly to draw the.attention of our business community to the importance of some unfmish-' ed work the Chamber has-still in hand, and to point out how desirable it is that continuous effort should be kept up until success, is reached. As the town becomes larger-and its business relationships become more complete and far-reaching, it seems- that the need for. an •: organisation?- such/ as a Chamber of -Commerce is much more extreme, if not quite absolutely necessary. It is the ■■: only institution ' busi-ness-men now i have for ventilating their wants and. wishes, -'.and which .should furnish the ..collective ' strength in securing' reform An matters 'not 'coming under the jurisdiction"- of loeaS governing bodies... In.the best interests of Taihape we trust that every shopkeeper and trader, mercantile man and banker, who can make it convenient, will.be present at to-night's moating, as the other alternative is disbandmen*. It is. not .a costly-matter as'the annual subscription is merely nominal.
