Although disarmament may come in future the present duty of each country in the Empire look after its: hom e defence. The Act wkicjh. mad* military training compulsory left out of consideration that large proportion of the public which are outside the prescribed military age. The vast majority of these men ar e sound in wind and limb and well able to effectively protect their country should circumstances arise which render it neceS- . ary. The. futur e is a closed book to us, but it is proverbial that the unexpected always happens. It is a pity, therefore, that so mucju fine material should be allowed to remain inactive and that a period of national and martial enthusiasm shouW be allowed to die down without advantage being taken of it in their .shape of the forma- I tion 'of a strong home defence London |has formulated a scheme/' Which. Australia ..would- do well to follow.
