A TIMELY WARNING.

.m (Tc the Sditor). Sir, —In all pn- .■ jillty before many •weeks havs pasasu, tha people of TaihapG in common -vith the people of New Zealand, v?ill be- faced with, tha problem cf rdce'.rring the needy and distressed, Ipa o:;<hans r(nd the widows and because we have no organi-sa-tion tfeffnitely: r tudymg how best to relieve local distress much time and unnecessary suffering will result. It seems to me that those who are ready to work for this cause should be banded together and work with some kind of co-operation. Not only cases resulting from tha "Great War," now raging, but from time to time cases of a different foundation but equally as distressful are in evidence in our midst, and however anxiou* one person or another may be to help, his voice is "like one crying in the wilderness"; but if there was a Charitably Society taking this matter up, their collective Voice would be more likely to attract attention, and their opinion carry more weight. It is my experience that voluntary societies are mere painstaking, more, charitable, and mere effective generally than offic/al organisation can be. For this reason I would suggest that some citizen of Tailiape carrying weight by reason cf his position, should call a meeting of those willing to form a society such as I have mentioned. Many distressful case.-, have come under my cllso Rtte r tion these last six months, am l r's* r " thorn have been incompetently dealt with, and the children harp --• '-a'd thit enraful attention ioh\ to x,i~~a that innocent •Children dasimv —- r I a"i convinced that unless r — •*'.
