Th e nominations for one seat on the Wanganui Hospital and Charitable Aid Board are advertised in another column. The candidates, are Mr A. J, Joblin, the sitting member, and Mr S. Skerman, of Marton. Mr Joblin was nominated hy Messrs W. McLennan and G. Wrightson, of Taihape, and by Messrs W. B. Clark and G. D. Nicholson, of Bulls. Mr Skerman was nominated by Messrs David Ingle and R. W. Beckett, both of Marton, The meeting of the Wanganui Hospital Board, which commenced yesterday morning, was adjourned during the afternoon until Wednesday next, when applications for the position of second health inspector- will be dealt with. Thia decision was reached On the casting vote of the chairman. An amendment was put forward that the meeting should be continued yesterday evening. The reason for the adjournment was that a majority of the members present wished to devote the rest of the doy to other matters. A minority claimed that an unconstitutional course had been adopted in permitting any break in the proceedings. Got a cold in the head? A few months ago Mr J. Whittle, of Moawhango, forwarded a donation to th e fun d instituted for the purchase of tobacco for the troops. In view of rumours of donations not reaching their intended sources th e letter Mr Whitlte has just received from the front is a welcome acknowledgment. Try it.* The Wanganui Hospital Board have decided to accept the following contributions from interested local bodies towards the salary of the additional Inspector of Health who is to be appointed:—Rangitikei County Couneil, £SO; Wanganui County, £35; Waitotara County, £35; Marton Borough, £3O; Mangaweka Town Board, £ls; Taihape Boroughj £3O; Hunterville Town Board, £5; Waimarino County, 15. The appointment will be made at a meeting of the Board on Wednesday next.

At the suggestion of the HigTi Commissioner, the Department of Agriculture has been sending forward to him at intervals samples of Searlot Pearmain, Rhodes Orange, Worcester Pearmain, and Alfredton apples. They were sent in ship's cold chamber in February, and the High Commissioner advised that he intended exhibiting them at the Eoyal Horticultural Society's Show. He has now forwarded the following cable:—"At the Horticultural Society's Show at Westminster, our display of apples looked remarkably well, and attracted the greatest attention. A silver medal was awarded ou* exhibits. The apples are to be shown and sold by the Army and Navy Cooperative Stores. There can be no doubt as to the future prospects of our apples on this market. All that is required is that they be properly packed, earried, and dealt with here. The fruit trade were invited to attend."
