The death of a small boy at Auckland hospital last week hag resulted in a strange development, the exhumation of the body having been ordered in order that the facts of the case may be investigated, Tke boy's name was Cecil Rhodes, aad Inst Thursday he fell into a tab of boilktg water and was considerably scalded, dying in the hospital on Satuvday. The body was buried without an inquest, but the Minister has ordered the body to be exhumed.

Skerr.ett, K.C., caused some amusement In the Full Court by relating that he was now engaged in arguing the exact opposite to what he did some years ago, in the ease in which the question of the conclusiveness of electoral rolls first cropped up in this country. On that occasion, he explained, he was covering the ground taken by Sir John Findlay, K.C., while Mr. Bell was launching againat him contentions which he himself now had to adopt.
Noticing a certain happening on his station platform recently, sln<es the New Zealand Bail way Officers' Advocate, a stationmaster not one hundred miles from Auckland wrote to the member of his staff concerned as folows: — "Porter A. B.— Rule 16,.—1t is alleged that you accepted a tip of one shilling from a passenger by No. train today. Your early report, please.—CD., Stationmaster." The porter's report was duly supplied, and read -..« under: —"Sir, —ln answer to above, I beg to state that allegation is untrue, but I have no doubt that a shilling wan intended for me, but I having such a strong determination for duty and to obey the rule, I lost it, through 'another member of the staff not having such a strong sense of duty, who crime along and the temptation was too much for him. The following story from the front was told by Captain Hill, l£.t\, at a large gathering of the wives of sailors and soldiers at Walworth, and is reported in The Times. Our men were being heavily shelled by the enemy, whose position could not be located, when a Tommy weat up to the oflicef and said: "I'll find it for you, sir. 1 don't mind telling you that I used to be a poacher.'' Taking a signalling lamp, lie disappeared. Presently the signal came: —"Fire away here; the enemy just behind." Tnc captain did not like to give the order to fire, fearing that the man might be killed. Bti* one of the men said —"That's nil right, sir. I know Alf; he's like a blooming rabbit." So they cleared the enemy from that point. An hour or two later came another- signal. It was Alf again. For three days nothing more was seen of the man, and the officer was very uneasy, when on the third night the signal came again from another direction — "Fire away: I'vgot the blighters very handy."
