GENERAL GODLEY'3 PAY. TO BE RE-CONSIDERED. WELLINGTON, This Day. Th e Minister cf Defence states that the promotion of General Godley to the rank of Major-General has cornpell;2d the New Zealand Government to consider their arrangemjant with him. While here General Godley was receiving £IOOO a year, and house allowance, £250; but a Major-Genjaral in the British army on active service receives in pay and allowances about £I7OO a year. The Government could not see how to do otherwise than pay him this extra salary, especially as. General Davis, a New - Zealander is receiving Major-General's pay from the Imperial authorities. COASTAL STEAMERS SUNK. NELSON, This Day. Nyberg Brothers' (Grey mouth) steamer, the Rakuray 81 tons, struck a rook near Stephen's Island at five this morning, and sunk. The crew were saved..
