(By -Telegraph.—Press Association.) MURDER AND SUICIDE. SHOCKING AFFAIR AT .WOOIr STON. CHRISTCHURCH, April 11. A shocking murder, foil-owed by the suicide of tho murderer, happened at Woolston this morning. The facts are that Charles Gustave Petersen, aged d 4, a labourer, residing in Park Street, Wtcolstoa, and his wife Catherine Mary Petersen aged 48, wfere found, ip, their bedroom about midday quite dead, the husband having cut his Asia's threat with a razor and then his -awn. The razor - was found lying at the back of tbs husband clode to hia head. Gustave Vincent Petersen, aged about who resided with hii. parents, left home at Z a.m. and went fidhlng at RedcMUs, and on his xteturn about midday found the blinds down, the fire nr auo4 on entering tbje b</irooir { found his parents dead. The husband had not been working for the past four years and is alleged to have developed the mania of jealousy. PRSuffered under the delusion that ;; were many men in the house or visited it and on several occasions n threatened violence. His wfie had been in failing health recently, and during the last fortnight was worse. At the inquest a verdict was accordeded that the wife was murdered by the husband, and that the husband committed suicide.
THE K. OF K. PLEDGE, A CHRISTCHURCH CAMPAIGN. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A public meeting was held on Saturday to consider tbje advisability of instituting a K. of K. pledge campaign, the Mayor presiding. It was resolved that these present form thsmsevles into a committee to do all in their power to farther the movement and call further public meetings at an early date. _ •; - PRICES FOR FREEZERS. LAMB PRICES DECIDED UPON. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A conference, was hold on Friday between those interested in the frozen meat export trade and the Hon. Mi _ Massey. It was decided that a coraf mittee be appointed to fix the price per pound overall in the works. The committee met on Saturday and agreed that the overall price to be paid by export buyers to producers for lambs be continued at Ggd, and GJd per lb until April 13, inclusive, and 6 11-lGd and 6 5-16 d thereafter, until May 31; such prices to apply to all lambs delivered at the freezing works on or before such dates. Arrangements to be subject to revision after the end of May. WASf TAXATION. ; RANGITIKEI COUNTY COUNCIL. MARTON, This Day. At the Eangitikei County Council’s meeting on Saturday letters were received from the Minister of Finance and the Mayor of Wellington inviting co-'operation in raising subscriptions for the Belgian Fund. , Councillor T. Duncan, a large landowner, spoke strongly in favour of taxing land and large incomes. He said it would be to the credit of the. present Government if they faced the situation boldly amt taxed those who . were r reaping , the r benefit from the war. His remarks ■were endorsed oy all councillors, a .id the following resolution was carried unanimously: * 4 That it bo a commendation to the Government to levy a war tax to meet all extraordinary expenses in connection with the war, such tax to be levied on land and large incomes. ” PICTURE THEATRE BURNED. It is believed to be the work of an incendiary.
