CONSTABLE DISAPPEARS. i SENSATION CAUSED IN'NAPIER, i The strange disappearance of Con- ' stable Donald Shaw, of'the Napier police force, quite a sensation. He was on duty till 5 p.m., on Thursday last, and had been granted' a day off—Good Friday. Consequently no notice was taken of tire fact that lie was not seen about ■ town 'on Friday. When he failed to report for duty on Saturday, however, inquiries w&rq,a.t once made-,< ; bm,.no trace what-, ' lever ha s yet been found that would ■ .suggest his.,yyh e reabouts. Constable . Shaw’s property at the police station .where,he-was-in. the habit of sleeping, is all in order, and no document of ; any kind has, heieu i'uund to throw any ; light on the man’s strange disappearance. ! Inspector McGrath stated to a re- ! porter that for some time past Shaw had suffered a good deal from iiisom-, j nia, and on his applying for sick-leave I was gran lied six weeks’ holiday. After being away for four \veek s visiting j Rotorua, and Auckland, he returned and reported himself fit for duty. Shaw is a heavily built man about sft lOin in height, with fair hair and a light moustache usually waxed at ‘ the ends. He is a single man, of ! about 38 years, and speaks with a pro, | nounce'd Scotch accent. He was dress; I ed in mufti when last seen. It is '/feared that something serious has hiyp- ' penfid to Tifm, or that life has merely; : lost mehtarcbntrcl, as a reshlt of many ' sleepless nights, and is wandering about. ' He is of- a quiet, unassuming nature, and certainly not in any financial troubles,’ as he’has a credit of ' four figures at the bank. ' Lives living in- Grey town.
