At a meeting of the Levin Acclimatisation Society it was reported by a member that people were In the habit of going out in the ranges, shooting down cattle, and, after taking off the hide, leaving the carcase to rot; in some eases the hides were not even removed. It was stated that this wan illegal, as U-g cattle were protected, and it was also a sinful waste. These ware cf use to survey parties who depended on them for thair meat supplies. It was decided to draw the attention of the Government to the matter, through the Mead Acclimatisation Society, and have the practice stopped.
