RAETIHI SCHOOLMASTER'S DEATH. A TOURING TRIP'S SAD END, The poeple of Raetihi werje shocked to learn that a schoolmaster, Mr Rockel, had died while on a touringtrip of the mountains Tongariro, Ngaruahote and Ruapehu, in company with Messrs Tansey, Blyth Randal and another. It appears that the two firstnamed mountains had been scaled and it was while the party was on Mount Ruapjehu that Mr Rockel complained of being fatigued. He, however, determined to go on with the party, who ascended as far as ths snowline. On nearing the glacier Mr Rockel had the, misfortune to miss his footing and he fell a considerable distance. He was rescued by other members of the party and it was while they werja bringing him down that he died. His body ha s been taken to Ohakime. The "Call" states: "W|e are in receipt of the bare intimation that Mr Roohel, schoolmaster in charge of Makotuku school, died of exhaustion while touring on Mount Ruapehu. A carrying party and Constable Aimison have set out to bring the body in. No further news regarding the sad occurrence is available at the moment."
