RANGATAUA AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL.

HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. TWO WORLD'S RECORDS MADE. Although the weather was not of the best, the Chopping Carnival held at Rangataua on Monday was in every way a great .success. All the officials put their whole energy into it. Daring the day the Ohaknne Brass Band played select music. Chopping was of the. best and the handicapper had the competitors well placed. During the day two world's records were put Up. Two new items wov*. in eluded in the programme —one the straight cut chop, for which Mr. R. W. Smith, M.P., gave a handsome cup, and for which 15 competitors entered. The other was the Jacking Competition, which was keenly contested by 1(5 entrants. A ball held in the Town Hall in the evening brought a pleasant day to a close. About 100 couples were on the floor. During the evening, Mr. R. W. Smith, M.P., patron, presented the various prizes won at the carnival. A cake given by a local gentle:;:" was sold at the ball for the Belgian Fund, realising £B. Mr. Prentice's orchestra supplied the music at the ball.
