THE FIGHT DESCRIBED. JOHNSON OPENS AGGRESSIVELY. (Roe, 1.3 p.m.) 5 HAVANNA, April 5. At the Willard—Johnson fight there was a crowd of 15,000 people. The day broke dull, but the sun ivas shining brightly when the fight commenced. Both fighters -were received with prolonged applause. The fight was postponed for half-an-hour owing to forgetting the gong. Round One. —Johnson feinted and landed his left on Willard’s jaw; he macte ‘repeated uppercuts with rights on Willard’s face-. Willard drove tree lefts into the negro’s body then Johnson drove his right into Willard’s body, ‘ Round 2.—Johnson neatly blocked Willard ’s leads, scoring a "right on his left jaw, and hooked his left to the stomach, at which Willard laughed. He then drove Willard on to the ropes and tattooed the left side of his face. Round 3. —Johnson rushed and planted his left on to Willard’s body and his right on his jaw. Willard’s lip was bleeding. Willard scored a left on Johnson’s nose. Round 4.—The negro smashed hard at Willard’s ribs, and drove three hard blow r s into his stomach. The champion rushed Willard to the ropes, scoring on head and body. Willard was badly distressed and looked like an amateur. Round 6.—The negro beat Willard to tho ropes with a fusilade of lefts, and rubbed Willard’s cut lip at every op* portunity. He landed three blow r s on Willard’s unprotected body. At the bell Johnson was hammering hard at the body; Willard’s left cheek wa's cu?. Round 7. —Johnson was using every artifice to force the fighting. He rushed Willard to the ropes, slugging with both hands repeatedly. Willard’s long left temporarily blinded the negro’s left eye. Johnson came back with a series of swings to the body. It was a clean fight so far.
