A COMMITTEE APPOINTED.
TO DEAL WITH SURPLUS MEAT. (Reed. 9.15 a.m.) LONDON, March 31. The Board of Trade has appointed Mr Mackenzie, High Commissionei foi New Zealand, Thomas Robinson, Queensland, and Sir Montague Nelson a committee to deal with any question arising in connection with surplus Australian lamty and New Zealand mutton and lamb purchased by the Imperial Government.
WELSH DISESTABLISHMENT

Welsh members of the House of Commons in conference, with one dissentient, passed a resolution relying on Mr Asquith’s undertaking, endorsed by Mr Bonar Law, that no controversial legislation vi’l be introduced during the war, Wels]j members, therefore, decline to proceed with fmthr discussion of the Disestablishment Bill.
A LIBEL ACTION.
NATURALISED GERMAN FAILS IN SUIT. SYDNEY, March ,31. Dr Neumann sued the newspaper “Orange Leader” for £2OOO damages for alleged libel for commenting without mentioning his name, that a German doctor had not passed a single candidate as fit to take up arms against his countrymen. The evidence showed that the plaintiff was naturalised, and had passed 29 out of 32 candidates examined. Defendant’s counsel contended that the article was published from a high sense of public duty, and did not contain personal malice. The name was not mentioned.
AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND.
COMMONWEALTH OFFERS ANOTHER CONTINGENT. SYDNEY, March 31. Mr Fisher, at a luncheon, announced that be had cabled to tpe Imperial Government to-day offering another contingent for service at the front. He remarked that relations between Australia and New Zealand wiare more cordial than ever before. The Dominion was sending a delegate to discuss matters of common interest. Mr Fisher denied the rumour from London that h!a wa s accepting the High Commissionership.
