LATEST PICTURES OF THE KAISER.
GROWN SMALL AND AGED. AMSTERDAM, Jan, 31. The Berlin correspondent of the "Nieuwe Rotterdamscne Courant" devotes an articls to the Kaiser arising out of Hlg Majesty's birthday. He says , that the Kaiser has become like a mythical person living behind the wails of mystery created by the headquarters. Quite recently, however, the cor. respondent visited a cinema where a picture was shown of the Kaiser visiting the troops in the Eastern war theatre. When his Majesty appeared on Lh:e screen, a murmur ran through the house. "How small he has become." The correspondent says: "This was also my own very strong 'impression, which was still further confirmed this week on seeing a new photograph of the Kaiser —a striking portrait. The Emperor's features have become sharp. His cheiakborjss and nose which appears much more aquiline than formerly, spring sharply forwards. Hi s moustache shows up dark on the photograph, but the hair on tht temples seems to come down v, bite under the helmet. Eerything that one, especially in caricature, formerly regarded in foreign countries as typical of the face of the Kaiser, has disappeared. A simple officer staring earnestly in front of him —that is the impression which the portrait makes. "The well-known Bavarian writer, Herr Gangnofer, has just given in the "Munchner Nieuste Nachrichten'' a fur 'account of a visit to the Kaiser. Hi.-, impression is that the Kaiser is, in deed, somewhat rtged, and the hair on his temples has become a little whiter. What he relates of the visit dees not nake exactly the impression that the Xaiser is Incoming bowed beneath events, but corresponds generally U he idea that people have formed c him when they'have been told that in ia ~i learnt, to adjust himself to thituation, which, notwithstanding th.ery exalted qualities he possesses nust still hi \iery painful. "The day before yesterday, however . spoke to someone who had been abl<.0 observe t'h'e Kaisar several tinves at headquarters, He said, 'The Kaiscr't l>;>earance shocked m.e. 'the Emperc , old and gray ,and has fallen away. fe is visibly affected by circumstan es, i have seen him saw wood (liifc daily amusement, in which he indulges here and also at Potsdam), and it distressed me to see him sit, working listlessly, and new and sljain staring fixedly in front of himself, lost in thought." The correspondent remarks that reports do not agree, and that while he Aoes not accept the most sombre ac-ic-unts of the Kaiser, neither dees he '.rust the stories to the effect that the ■Caiier has never for years been se feeli, lively, and eoniisated as now. objective witnesses, such as photography and living pictures, offer a de ; : .ded contradiction to this.
