MARTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
At tha-meeting of the Marton Borough Council the Mayor reported that the' Works Committee had ordered a Burrell road'roller, which will be indented from Home. " The overseer Reported that the foot, path in Russell Street had been graded and partly covered with screenings and Blackwell Street graded. The footpath in front of the White Hart corner will be finished to-morrow. The):e is now 13 feet G inches of water in the dam, a drop of nine inches for the fortnight. He also reported that on ..Saturday n«ght three of the street lamps on Station Street were broken. The :gas pipes leading to the lampst were broken off and the gas allowed to escape. —The Mayor reported that the mattdr of the lamp being broken had been placed in the hands of the police
Or Sinclair reported on the proposed improvements to the Fire Brigade Station, but the matter was deferred. The secretary of the Carnegie Corporation of New Yo|rk wrote, stating that on tlie understanding that the building the plans call for will be erected-complete and ready to occupy within the £1250 promise, arrangements have been made for payments as work progresses. .Mr F. R. H. Brice. wrote in connection with the.-laying of sewerage in Follett S.lre3t extension, as he intended to call tender;-; for the work.— Council decided to accede •to Mr Brice's request. According to tha Health Inspector (Mr Thomas Pargeter) there i s one case of scarlet fever and one of diptheria in Mrjitcn, one case of typhoid fever in Bulls, and two cases of tuberculosis in Mangaweka. The Town Clerk brought under the notice of the Council the necessity of providing, a taxi & tand for motor ears; also one fcr, coaches, and suggested that a stand for each class of vehicle be provided- on each" side of the-'Tbwn' Hall in Lower High Street, the roadway to be asphalted, and a telephone to be installed at the expense of tha < L axi cab s en the' corner telegraph post, should they desire it. —The matter was referred to the Works Committee.
Cr Sicely's notice of motion that the number of Councillors ba increased to nine was lost, Ci's Lloyd, Sinclair and Sicely vctinlg for it, and Crs Sutcliffe.. Lewis, Wilde and the Mayor against it. The Marton Fire Brigade's application for half-yearly subsidy was granted conditionally. A report was received from J. L. Maclaren, D. 5.0., F.C.S., Dominion analyst, on the water in the new dam, which showed that the filtration has greatly improved the ■quality cf the water. .......... ••• ( . Or Sicely moved: That the 15-inc.li -pipe drain laid ,fi;om Read's bridge to r Hi)?lv* Street be extended along Broadway to one chain north of Follett Street and connections made with the water channel at M-ulindisrJg corner.-; and the White HsH corner,. and on both sides of Broadway near Follett Street; and that the brick culvert from Mulindiar's corner to the TOwn Hall corner be removed; and that, the work be done before Broadway is asphalted. —CY Lloyd seconded. j
Cr Wildl3 moved that the engineer, ba asked to give an estimate and report on the' proposed work. —The chairman seconded. —The amendment was carried.
