"THE GLAD EYE." OwiiVg to the veVy frequent visits from travelling companies to Taihape, and th'3 wet weather no one will be surprised that only a moderate house greeted Mr Beaumont Smith's presentation of "The Glad Eye" at the Town Hall last night. Those who did go witnessed one of the best items of comedy ever staged here. The staging and scnery was all that could be wished for and the dresses were simply exquisite. The various actors' performances it is needless to discuss, as they almost all have an English reputation. The part taken by Mis s Ethel Dane was altogether too short; it left an audience hunger for more. All the parts were in capable hands, those of Suzanne and Lucienne being particularly well sustained. The comedy supplied by MiFrank Bradley, Tom Shelford and Henry J. Ford had a marked effect upon the risible faculties of the audience. In fact the play induced an almost continuous simmer of laughter from the rise to the fall of the curtain, and it was from a dramatic point of view a complete success. PLIMMER—HALL COMPANY. PATRIOTIC TOUR. "Lady Windermere's Fan" will b'e the opening play of this company.when they arrive in Taihape for the relief of the Belgians, to which all the profits of the tour are to be allotted. The company has been specially selected for the presentation of Oscar Wilde's brilliant drama, and for the second production, "Mummy and the Humming Bird." Miss Beatrice Day will be seen as Mi' s Eflynne, which in other countries has proved one of her greatest parts. Miss Ena Shanahan will play Lady Windermere, and Miss Nellie Calvin has the bright character of the voluble Duchesg of Berwick. Mr Harry Plimmer will app'aajr as Lord Darlingten, Mr Winter Hall, Lord Windermere, and Mr Vivian Edwards and Mr W. H. Varna are also included in the cast. The object of the tour is such a laudable on e that it will surely meet with the greatest success, when the public can feel that whilst obtaining by their patronage the best of theatrical fare, they are contributing to so worthy a cause. . The box plans for the season open at Finch's Bazaar, on Saturday next.
