THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE
Mr. F. R. H. Brice, of Marton, has received the following letter from Mr. W. G. Foster, the managing director of the Wellington Meai Expor;: Co. Ltd.: "We are having enquiries from growers as to what effect the ad ion of the Imperial Government in commandeering all frozen meat v.ill ha%c on our operations, and wo are writing in explanation of the matter. We will continue to buy as heretofore, either at per head, or at an. overall price per lb on the farm, including skin and fat. The, prices we offer will necessarily be based on the values we receive from the Government, whie-h after all only takes the place of the firms who have bought our meat from us in the past. Should growers wish to send their stock in and get -paid on the actual turnout, we are quite willing to receive on these terms, provided the lot is large enough to be trucked and killed separately. In such cases the skin and fat would have to be dealt with separately, as the Government only takethe meat. It would be impracticable with small lots or broken truck loads or when different mobs had to he bo.-L-. ed for purposes of driving to the trucking station. Payment is to be made by the Government when the meat ir
shipped, and we will then remit to tin grower the amount less our nsuul charges for killing, freezing, bagging and putting on board ship, and the cost of drafting, driving, putting on trucks and railage to Ngahaurangu. Unless the owner is attending to fire insurance whilst in works awaiting shipment the cost of this would g!so have to be charged to him."
