OFFICIAL WAR CORRESPONDENT. THE COMMITTEE'S SELECTION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The two names recommended to the Government by the committee of selection fc(r the position of Official War Corrspond'ent, are: Malcolm Ross, journalist, Wellington, and E. Hall, member of the litterary staff of the "Evening Post." The Press Association has been requested to deny the correctness of the above, and to intimate that four naniss were sent in by the Committee. FATAL LIFT ACCIDENT. YOUNG WOMAN KILLED. AUCKLAND, This Day. Margery Evelin e Dewes, aged 24, daughter of the late A. E. Dews, whose mother resides at Parn|ell, wa s killed instantly this morning as she was ascending the lift in Hobson Buildings, the lift being in charge of Edward Renner, ag 0 d 17. On reaching the second floor Miss Dewes was getting out and had one foot on the lift and the other foot on the landing, when the lift suddenly dropped. She was pinned with her back against the floor and some minutes before she was released. She was then quite dead. HOUSE BURNT DOWN. INMATES HAVE NARROW ESCAPE AUCKLAND, This Day. A seven-roomed house at Glentield, owned by S. E. Taylor, was destroyed by fire with all its contents. Mr ar.d Mrs Taylor and two children wera in bed and narrowly escaped. The house is insured for £550 in the National; the furniture for £7O in the South British. THE LATE BISHOP GRIMES. IMPOSING FUNERAL SERVICE. GOVERNMENT REPRESENTED. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The burial service of the lave Bishop Grimes took plac e yesterday in Christchurch Cathedral. A re'iu.'eum Mass was sung by Bishop Clen.-y. agisted by Dean Hills. There was a large gathering, the buildin?; r.eing ciowded. Among those present were representatives of the Government, public bodies and institutions. Arc.hbi.shop O'Shea pronounced the panegyric, and briefly expressed thanks to* the Catholic clergy arid laity for their kind messages of sympathy; also j.o all creeds and classes in the r.'cminicn. He thanked the Government, and the Governor in particular. After referring to the lat G Bishop's career he said that the, departed prelate had jgreat love for the Dominion, for which he always predicted a great future. Christchurch had sustained a great loss, but not without great hope, Grief had drawn many tcteether, and would help to draw close): those of various other creeds. The body was interred in the Chapel of Holy Souls. CHRISTCHURCH COURT. THE BERTRAM BttNN CASV. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, Bertram Bunn appeared on remand, charged with attempting to procure abortion. He was further remanded till Wednesday, th e police stating that the principal witness was ill. A youth named Edward Wilson, charged with the theft of a registered letter from the Springfield Pest Office, pleaded guilty and was remanded for sentence. ALLEGED THEFT. FROM OHAKUNE BOROUGH. Leo Stephen Curtis, a member of the Expeditionary Force, charged with stealing £22 from the Ohakune Borough Council has been remand e d to appear at Wanganui on Monday.
