The Board of Trade returns show that the colt-on trade is almost normal, owing to a revival of trade in the East and to Government orders. There is a serious shortage in agricultural labour, 15.6 per cent, of labourers having joined the army and navy. It is estimated that farmers require 80,000 more permanent labourers for the harvest. Stock Exchange employment is bad, though over one-third of the clerks have enlisted, BRITISH DYE PROPOSALS. ' RESOLUTION TO PROCEED CARRIED. SHAREHOLDERS INCREASE HOLDINGS. LONDON, March 24. The Dyes Company has carried a resolution to proceed with the scheme. Many shareholders promised to increase their holdings with a view to raising the extra £200,000 required. THE ISLAND HURRICANE, (Reed. 10.45 a.m.) SUVA, March 24. The hurricane at Vavau continued from March 17th to 19th and was at its height on Friday morning. Considerable damage was done, and plantations wer e put back a year. No casualties have bepii reported, but a few houses were unroofed and the steamer Atua was held up for two days. It is believed that Haapai and Nukualofa escaped.
