CORONER'S INQUEST.
A DISTRESSING CASE. VERDICT OF TEMPORARY INSANITY. Mr J. P. Aldridge, district coroner, on 22nd conducted an inquest touching the death of George Frederick Newton, of Kceke. Evidence showed that deceased left his home yesterday morning with the stated intention of shooting i'abbits. Prior to this deceased had caught his horse, and proposed driving into Matarea with Mrs Newton to catch the train, as both intended going on a holiday for the purpose of recruiting Mr Newton's health. Deceased tied a boot lace tc the trigger of the gun and blew the top of his head off. Evidence showed that he had been suffering from insomnia for some time and was subject to fits cf melancholia. A verdict was returned that deceased - committed suicide whilst in a state of temporary insanity. Ho wa s a much respected settler of many years' standing and leaves a wife and eight children, the eldest bing 20 years of age.
