' It is reported that the Crown Prince of Bavaria has b&en seriously wounded by a fragment of shell, WAR SAFEGUARDS WAIVED. ON COLONIAL SHIPMENTS. (Reed. 8.55 a.m.) LONDON, March 19. The authorities agreed to waive, in respect to the colonies, the special war safeguards surrounding exports, on condition that owners undertake not to make improper shipments. TURKISH FORCES. LONDON, March 19, Berlin states that 80,000 Turks are concentrated in Smyrna and neighbourhood. DET WET’S TRIAL. LONDON, M*rch 19. At the trial of De Wet, at Bloemfontein, the court-house was thronged, many of the audience apparently sympathising with the rebels. Evidence was given that De Wet was strongly influenced by racial sentiment, which he had restrained for years. He was the catspaw of Herty.og. When Botha asked Steyn to use his influence to prevent a rebellion, Steyn sent Hertzog’s appeal to De Wet. The latter’s reply was that Botha must resign and agree to the proclamation of a republic, FRANCO-BRITISH REPRISALS, FRENCH REPLY TO AMERICA. PARIS, March 19. M. Delcasse, in reply to the United States respecting Franco-British reprisals, says it is analagous to what Sir Edward Grey expressed, in the hope that whan America compares Germany’s unspeakable violence and criminal acts, unprecedented in naval warfare, with the Allies’ respect fcjr the laws of humanity she will recognise that the Allies have not exceeded the rights ,of belligerents.
