WANGANUI HOSPITAL BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting' of the Wanganui Hospital ami Charitable Aid Board was hold on Wednesday, presided over by Mr. Bignell, in the absence of the chairman, Mr. W. G. Basset. There were also, present: Mesdames Oomyns and Siddells, Messrs. Battle, Smith, McGregor, Lethbridge, Fletcher, Bennett, Joblin, Whiteman and Bussell. EXECUTIVE >S REPORT.
An Ohakune Request: Dr. Feltham. of Ohakune, forwarded further information in support of his application for a subsidy for a private hospital at Ohakune.—The matter was held over for inquiry. Assistant Health Inspector: A statement of the contributions promised by local bodies towards the salary of the assistant health inspector was submitted. The promised contributions were: Rangitikei County Council £SO, Wanganui County Council £35, Waitotara County Council £35, Mart on Council £3O, Taihape Borough Council £ls, Ohakune Borough Council £3O, Mnnsreweka Town Board £ls, Bulls Tov .. Board (probably) £ls. The Taihape. Borough Council agreed to the contribution of £4.5 per year on condition that the officer resided permanently at Taihape. The Department of Hospitals wrote stating that the contributions to the salary would not carry subsidy in the usual way: £2lO was offered and the matter referent to the executive for consideration.
Health Inspector’s Report: Mr. T. Pargeter. Health Inspector, reported as follows: During the month a visit of Inspection was made by the District Health Officer to most of the local authorities in the Board’s district. The Maori pahs also received attention. As a result of the doctor’s visit, a number of Maori huts, etc., are to be condemned as unfit for human habitation, and a trained nurse with special knowledge of the Maoris is to be sent to all pahs in the district. Sale of Pood and Drugs Act —The milk supply at Gonville has been tested. During the month the following cases of infectious diseases were reported: Scarlet fever— Gonville Town District 1, Marton Borough 1, Bulls Town District 3. Diphtheria—Wanganui Borough 3, Wanganui County 3, Marton Borough !. Tuberculosis —Mangawoka Tcwi District 2. Chiekenpox—Wanganui Borough 4. New Offices: Plans were submitted for the new offices of the Board. The proposed cost was about £IOOO. The plans were approved and the Board’? architect was instructed to complete the plans, etc., and to call for tenderfor the building, to be submitted at next meeting.
PUBLIC HEALTH REPORT. PREVALENCE OF DIPTHERIA. The following report by the district Health Inspector, Mr T. PargeW” was submitted at the meeting of the Wanganui Hospital Board on Wednesday in connection with notifiable diseases.
Total* 271 30 Firm an analysis of the above figures the prevalence of diptheria will be noted, but. the disease was practically confined to young people, seven cases only bein',g persons ovep 25 years of age. Tuberculosis proved the most deadly of the diseases, the number of ieatlis bc-i:3(; the highest by a big margin. Twenty-seven cases with 14 deaths occurred among people over 25 years of age. Scarlet fever did not result in any deaths, and 34 patients out of the total of 40 were under 15 years of Ite. Out of a total of 28 cases of 'drekenocx, 27 pationt s were under 15 years of age.
