The Chief cf the General Staff announces that all restrictions are now removed ■on the publication of 01 dinary shipping news. AUSTRALIA'S WOOLLEN NEEDS, HUGE PURCHASES IN NEW ZEALAND. AUCKLAND, This Day. A representative of the Federal Government arrived in Auckland by the Rlverina, in order to purchase supplies cf woollens for the Australian army. lie has placed orders lor 96,000 navy sweaters, 212,000 knitted underpants, 200,000 knitted shirts, 240,000 pairs of socks, and 1,112,000 yards cf flannel. The last item alone costing £60,000. It is doubtful if the whole cf the mills of New Zealand can supply the ordtir. A representative of the Bruce Woollen Mills states that at present merchants and millers are putting up with inconvenience and loss cf trade in order to supply the requirements cf our own forces. Australia’s demand accentuates the position and will mean curtailing the requirements cf the Dominion, and raising cf prices until they are almost prohibitive.
The Federal Government is prepared to accept, a 10 per cent, cotton mixture, but the New Zealand duty cf 4d per lb on -jraw cotton shuts that out. He suggested that the Government should lift the' duty, enabling returning troopships to bring in a supply from Egypt.
INTERESTING WILL CASE. WELLINGTON, March 17. The hearing cf a Taranaki will case was concluded to-day by Mr Justice Chapman. The disposal will was that of Thomas Francis Walsh, of Hurley-v-ille, farmer, and the value of the property -lc-?c <was 'estimated at about £B,OOO. The plaintiffs were uncles on the patopnal side and the defendants tho uncles, aunts and grand mot bet on the maternal side cf the deceased. Several of them wefe residents , of County Kerry, Ireland. The wib in question was made just prior to the ds. parture of the deceased from his farm by motor, to the New Plymouth Hospital. He died on the way. The document w r as in the following terms: '‘Norfolk Road, 25th February, 1913. — Thomas Francis Walsh: Statement. — In case anything should happen to me on my w r ay to thh hospital, I leave all my estates and stock to my uncles and aunts except my interest in the Norfolk Road Farm, which |goes to my partner, Ernest William Giibbs, and £SO is to go to Mrs Allen for her trouble during my illness. —Thomas Francis (mark). Witnessed by Ernest William Gibbs, T. J. Allen, Mrs T. J. Allen.”
The plaintiffs claimed that the court should pronounce for the will as constituting the tj-ue last will of the deceased. For the defence it was urged that the court should nil's that the deceased dic'd intestate. The evidence cf two of tiie signatories to the wjill (Ernest William Gibbs and Maria Allen), was taken, also of two handviitiiig o.peits to show that the last two signatures tc the will were in different hands. The contention cf the- defence was that th'ay were by one and the same hand. The deceased was unable tc cign throvj'h physical weakness. In case the will was invalid the property would go to the deceased’s next cf kin, h,n grandmother in Ireland.
The jury found tli'a dacument was satisfactorily proved to be. executed by th'a testator as his .last will, and his Honour ordered probate to be granted, costs of beth sides to come out cf the estate.
