BRITISH IN JERUSALEM. HELPED TO ESCAPE BY AMERICAN CONSUL. How the vigorous interve»tio.n of the American Consul at Jerusalem, ooupiscl with the dramatic appearance of the United States cruiser Tennessee, enabled the last five British subjects remaining 1 in the Holy City to escape, is related hy one of them la clergyman —who arrived in London on January 13. While waiting on tire quay for a stoamer they wiere seized and removed. but the Consul, after an interview with' the Turkish commander,obtained their fialeaee and accompanied them back to the quay. He announced that hs would not leave wntil they were permitted to depart.
