ILLEGITIMATE CHILD’S DEATH, (By Telegraph.—Press Association,) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. ‘ At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Walter Charles Hooper was charged that he did on January 5 make a falsa statement concerning the death of an illegitimate child. The police said aoeused and his wife took the child and receved £3O. It is alleged that accused wilfully evaded the law and the child had since died. The Registrar said there was a discrepancy between tha entry regarding the child’s birth and its death. Accused his defence and ws committed for trial. On a further charge of having, iu consideration of the payment of £3O, retained an infant without being licensed, Hooper and his wife were conveted and ordered to be sentenced adter the .Supreme Court case was disposed of.
