SOCIAL AT OHUTU.

FOR BELGIAN RELIEF FUND. (Own Correspondent). A most -enjoyable evening was spent by all those who were fortunate enough to be able to be present at the social given at Ohutu by residents, in aid of the Belgian Relief Fund. The large hall in Mr M. Kennedy’s buildings was taxed to its utmost to accommodate the happy-looking throng, bent upon relieving distress in their own pleasure. Dancing was indulged in most heartily up till a late hour, to the splendid music supplied by Mrs Ollington, Miss £uid Mr Harry Chase. Songs were rendered by Mrs Campbell, Miss Haggle and Mr Ward. Mrs Mullins gave a Highland fling exhibition that would warm the blood of any Scotchman, and Messrs M. Ryan and Ptherbridge performed the Sailor’s Hornpipe, for which they were loudly applauded. The success of the whole affair hingjed on the organisation and management, and ■in this respect too much cannot be said for the work done by Mr R. W. CampK,',.’ the able secretary, to Miss Heise, the president, who worked nobly, in carrying out her duties. In fact all the ladies who assisted in providing the more than usual comforts deserved heartiest thanks of all present. Not least among the workers was Mrs Campbell, who seemed to be just where help was needed to render assistance throughout the whole proceedings.

The money raised by this little social gathering will help ■he Etlgian sufferers to the extent of about £l6. This sum includes toe proceeds from the disposal of a cushion, of which Miss Brookes became the lucky possessor. At about half-past three tip's morning one of th~ most c: oyahle socials held here closed, everyone speaking in the highest terms of the promoters and organisers.
