OUR BOYS IN EGYPT
MOST SATISFACTORY REPORT. WELLINGTON, This Day. General Godley, in a letter to the Minister of Defenne, states hte attach of the Turks on the day they arrived on the Suez Canal was very feeble, and if Turks do succeed in making any better effort he expects the rest cf the New Zealanders will have to go. A satisfactory part also is that out of the whole army corps, one infantry hJi'gade was required,, and New Zealanders should have been the one selected to igc. General God-lej adds: We are much amused at your cable about the throat-cutting episode in the low quarters of Cairo. I expect some wag has been pulling the newspapers’ legs. As a matter of fact, our men get on extremely well with all the Egyptians. There has been practically no instances of hate with us even in brawls, with the natives. General Godley also refers to the rumour about gifts being sold in canteens as a “'mare's nest.”
