THE FREEZING WORKS

The Directors of the Otaihape Farmers’ Co-operative Freezing Works have decided, after exhaustive enquiries and the consideration of opinions tendered, to instal a suction gas plant as against steam, and have accepted the tender of Messrs J. J. Niven and Co., of Napier, for £2,690 for .the installation of a suction gaspower plant. Tenders declined were: A. and T. Burt, Wellington, £3,017 18/ ant John Chambers and Sons, Wellington, £3,100. The directors have also ac cepted the tender cf Niven and Co. £3,825, for installation of the freezing plant. Tenders declinsd were: Chambers and Son, £4,2.70 and A. and T. Burt, £4,672 7/.

The directors have also discussed the advisability of adding a canning factory to the works, and are unanimously of the opinion that such works are desirable, but do not wish to in any way jeopardise the present sound financial position of the compajny by ctcpcMlng fraoney in the* direction of canning works at present. The company's engineer points out that even it the decision to proceed with the installation of a canningplant te postponed for four months or so it would then give ample time to have the canning plant in operation concurrently with the freezing works. The directors have decided to postpone ibe matter for two months.
