ivELLIE STEWART. "SWEET NELL OF OLD DRURY." "At the Taihape Town Hall, next Tuesday, March 16th, Miss Nellie Stewart will make her appearance in "Sweet Nell of Old Drury/' the beautiful romantic costume play in which she has made peculiarly her own. Miss Stewart is always good to tee. The theatre-going public ail ever New Zealand has known this fcr many years and amongst its most pleasurable recollections of Miss Stewart is her original performance in "Sweet Nell of Old Drury." According to the "Morning Herald," Sydney, during the recent renewal cf the play in that city, "Miss Stewart looked the character to perfection and invested it wtih all the loveabieness of old. Whether as the young orange seller or in the mere elevated sphere as actress under the patronage of the pleasure loving Monarch Charles 11. she maintained an even standard of excellence. Nell's clever mimicry of Judge Jeffries was highly appreciated, and the audience followed once more with deep interest the development of Nell Gwynne's counter-stroke which exposed the vindictive perfidy of "the hanging judge" and caused his downfall. Again Miss Stewart brought out effectively all the strong points of the erstwhile orange seller's wit and power of repartee in dealing with the jealousy and contempt cf her titled rival." The play will be presented on a lavish scale, as regards scenery, costumes, and general stage effects, and Miss Stewart will be supported by a particularly strong company, notably Messrs Clarence Blakistcn and Allan Wilkie, distinguished English actors, Messrs H. R. Roberts and J. B. Atholwood, who are old favourites, together with a cast cf. 70 characters. The box plan will be opened at Finc'n's Bazaar tomorrow rooming. Early application for seats is advised, as a heavy demand for reserved seats is anticipated from the country districts.
