The last time the British fleet entered the Bavdenelles was iuring the Russo-Turkish war in 1877-78, when it demonstrated in the sea of Marmora against the victorious Russians. One of the sailors who took part in the operations was Sub-Inspector Marsack, who is now in charge of the Palmerston police district. At the time SubInspector Marsack was a mid-shipman and has vivid recollections of the event.
