In this Dr T. B. Whitton announces that he is leaving Taihape on April 1 next. All accounts owing to him must be paid beofre that date.
Mr. 11. Barton, formerly of "The Times" reportorial staff, left on Saturday for Nelson, where he will spend the hop-picking season.
Mr. J. Webb, of Taihape, lias been appointed judge for fat stock, sheep, lambs and cattle and Shorthorns at the Cambridge Show, to be held on Thursday and Friday.
Ten members of the Samoa expediicnary force returned by the Atua last night. They were Privates Le >en, E.nj, Lovell (Auckland), Stubbs (Wellington), Gunner Pearce and Sappers Dr'ewery and Bodie, Privates Drear and Thompson.
The shortage of sheep trucks is igaiu a source of annoyance to fat stock buyers and consignors. This perpetual trouble appears to be more iccentualed this year than formerly uid it will be a good thing for farmers in this district when the local freezing works are in operation.
A Departmental enquiry into the fatal accident which befell Surfaceman M. Thomas has occupied the attention of Departmental officials at Taihape for the past few days. The enquiry is now concluded, but the result will not be known for some time as the lepositions have to be dealt with at headquarters at Wellington.
In .Friday's issue Mr. L. Daws' name was omitted in connection with •lie arrangements for the marshalling >.f the fat .stool; so liberally donated by settlers of this district. Mr. Daws 'ias been a zealous worker on behalf >f the proposal and has personally canvassed a large portion of the district ior contributions to the fund. His work in furthering the gift scheme is ■vovthy of mention.
Here is the best pig ration as recommended by Mr Harris, >f the wr.rldamed "Harris" Wiltshire" bacon. One gallon of skim milk, 3 pounds of boiled potatoes and 'enough barley meal c make up. the ration all mixed together. Water should be given separately and the ration served half at night and half in the morning. It is mid to be the most economical pig feed known.
The School Excursion to Castlecliff oh Friday promises to be well supported. Special trains will convey those who patronise the excursion and fares have been arranged as follows: — Pupils up to 15 'years'*of age 1/8 return; pupils 15 years of age and over, 3/3'; adults, A/?,. The school committee hopes to'convey the pupils of the three primers and' first and second standards free' the cost to be defrayed from the £2O in hand as a result of the recent concert. The committee has completed arrangements to iensure a pleasurable and- successful outing.
