The police gave evidence of tracing the paper replacing the notes to Burvill’s erder from a Sydney firm. Allegedly incriminating letters were found on accused. Burvill was committed for trial, bail being fixed at £2OOO. • (Solley Burvill, Commonwealth Treasury clerk at Sydney, was- remanded on a. charge of stealing two thousand pounds’ worth rf Commonwealth notes. Bail was fr.cd at two thousand pounds.) NEW SOUTH WALES TO SELL NO MORE WHEAT. (Reed. 10.1 C a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 20. The heat Board decided that no more wheat be exported to New South Wales or anywhere. This means that Victoria, Westralia, and South Australia will have to purchase from cutside sources. As regards flour, it is stated that 'applications from neighbouring States will be sympathetically dealt with. It is understood that they will be allowed to obtain normal supplies at a stipulated price, presumably this also applies to New Zealand, should the Dominion still desire to obtain a supply, but in the absence of definite information regarding the exact number of bushels icf wheat available, the Board apparently is not desirous of making a definite statement regarding the quantities and price. Nothing has yet been decided as to payment for wheat supplied to New Zealand. TASMANIAN GOVERNMENT TAKES DECISIVE ACTION. HOBART, Feb 20. (Rood. 10.10 a.m.) The Government is purchasing seven thousand tons cf Argentine wheat at a Cost (landed) of 8s 3d, and will sell to millers at Bs, conditional on their supplying bakers with flour at not more than 7s per ton profit, the latter selling bread at Hd per 21b loaf. The Government is negotiating for the purchase cf a similar quantity of Canadian wheat. FOOD PRICES. FLOUR VALUES GO UP. BUTTER INCREASES NOT ALLOWED. (Reed. 10.10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 20. The Foodstuffs Board has decided against any further increase in the price cf butter. The Melbourne Association has raised the price of flour to £lB the short ton delivered, and pollard to £ll ss, and have reduced bran to £9. AN AUSTRALIAN GIFT. OF A BRIDGING TRAIN. (Reed. 10.10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 20. The War Office has accepted the Defence Department’s offer cf a bridging train composed of 192 officers and men of the naval reserve, 412 horses and 42 nontcons. TRANSPORT ASHORE, EARLY FLOATING ANTIC PATJGD. (Reed. 10.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 20. A transport went ashore on the 18th north of the Australian Coast. It is in a sheltered position being lightered, and it is anticipated that it will be floated early. ARBITRATION COURT MATTERS. (Reed. 10.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 20. The Arbitration Bill to be introduced next session, has a far-reaching scope, including civil servants.
