THE KAPUA PICNIC
A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. (Own Correspondent). The Te Kapua settlers held their annual school and settlers picnic on Thursday, on Mr Mickleson’s property.' The weather turned out good beyond expectation, and young and old alike enjoyed themselves immensely. During the day a number of events were run off. Following are the results: Beys’ Race (Mr Little’s Trophy): Denis McCarthy 1, Con. Gaiven 2. Girls’ Race (Mr Dasliwocd’s trophy): Maggie McCarthy 1, Kathleen Gilchirst 2. Yeung Ladies’ Race (Mr Crawford’s trophy): L. O’Callahan 1, N. Grice 2.
Young Men’s Race (Mr Neagle’s trophy) ; G. Revell 1, H. Wimsett 2. Boys’ Race (Mr Peyton’s trophy): Denis McCarthy 1, Timothy McCarthy 2. Girls’ Race (Mr O’Callahan’s trophy): Maggie McCarthy 1, Eileen Thurston 2. Ladies’ Race (Mr Shnndley’s trophy) : L. O'Callahan 1, N. Grice 2. Married Men’s Race (Mr Loader’s trophy); Mr Parsons 1. Men’s High Jump: Mr Hint?. 1. Boys’ Jump: T. McCarthy 1, A. Mickeson 2, Ladies’ Chain-Stepping: Miss Buckland 1, Mrs Smith 2. Helpers’ Prize (McLaughlan Bros.’ trophy); Mrs Mickleson 1, Mrs Bricklaud 2. The most exciting event of the day was the tug-of-war —married men versus single, also that of married women versus single women, which were supervised by Mr Jorgensen and Mr O’CaHahan. The committee and ladies deserve great credit for the way in which they carried oat their duties to make the picnic a success. A number of visitors came from Taihape, among whom were Mr and Mrs O’Callahau and Mr and Mrs Jorgensen.
