The following statement has been issued icr the in form alien of the? public: Information has been received from he Foreign Office i» London that British subjects and others wishing to jommumcate with British subjects detained or resident in enemy countries may do so through an agency in a neutral country, and correspondents may select their own private agency. Messrs Cook and Sons, whose head office is at Ludgate Circus, London, E.G., arc nominated as a suitable firm tor the transmission of such communications. Such letters intended for

transmission to enemy countries via neutral countries should be as brief :.s possible, should contain nothing hut personal matter, and .should, if possible, be written in English or German, preferably German, to pass the censorship more speedily in the enemy country. Any abuse of this privilege, such as giving information which might be of any assistance to the memy or writing long letters will re.ult in the letters being stopped. It should be distinctly understood that this privilege extends only to communication with British subjects detained or resident in an enemy country, Correspondence fior prisoners of war interned in an enemy country will continue to be passed through the chief censor in London, and the prisoners! of war information bureau in Berlin as before. Pavment e. money to British subjects who itrc detained in an enemy country and unable to return to His Majesty's Dominions do not constitute m infringement of the Trading With The Enemy Proo'ama.'ior, but it may be necessary ;o krwavd such remittances through- a rrutral country. It is suggested that ii. raty be found pes--üble to forwa.-.u the money through Messrs Coo 1 ;; and &.-IXI or one of the principal banks.
