ENTERTAINMENTS
FLORENCE YOUNG'S COMPANY, TOWN HALL, TO-NIGHT. To-night (Wednesday) in the Town Hall, Miss Florence Yeung, at the head of her own company (which includes Messrs Reginald Roberts, Claude Bantcck and Edmund Sherras), will appear as Adelina in Edward Locke’s charming musical play, “The Climax.” The motif of the play concerns the question whether a woman should sacrifice a career in grand opera for the love ot a man, and whether domestic happiness should be cast aside for the glitter and glory of stage achievements and popularity. Domestic happiness wins in the end, but not before Adelina has demonstrated to her cynical lover (Mr Reginald Roberts) that it is possible to succeed on the stage without tarnishing one’s reputation. Of Miss Young’s interpretation of her Part, a leading Sydney daily said: “Miss Florence Young played the pupil with considerable skill. The intensity of her grief, with face set in despair, at the loss of her voice, was most artistically depicted, and was only equalled by the outburst of joy which followed its recovery. ‘The Climax’ is strong, dramatically and lyrically. In ‘The Song of the Soul’ Miss Young scores a great success..” Playgoers are reminded that the company can only play here for one night. Seats may be reserved at Finch’s Bazaar.
THE CHERHIAVSKYS. 'J he Cherniavskys, 1 lie musical trio will appear at the Town Hall, Tailmpe on March 15th.
