Newsapers compare the moderate tone of President Wilson’s advice to Britain regarding using a neutral flag, with the stern warning to Germany against sinking merchantmen at sight. Some German papers arc defiant towards President Wilson and abuse America.
GERMANY ATTEMPTS JUSTIFICATION,
AMSTERDAM, Feb. .14, The German Legation states that Britain declares that all British ports are war ports, which justified merchantmen in using neutral flags. Many merchantmen are armed to destroy German submarines, thus losing their status of merchantmen. Germany therefore warns neutrals not to enter British coast waters after the 18th., and disclaims responsibility for the risks neutrals incur by entering the war :><me.
