HOW THE KING REACHED THE TRENCHES.
The interesting accounts already published of the King’s visit to the army at the front told us many things of which the earlier telegrams made no mention; but it omitted many items of note. For instance, I hear from a Birmingham soldier that it was his privilege to see Royalty under circumstances which were certainly unique (says a correspondent). The King was keen to visit the troops in the tren ches, and as these are in close proximity to the enemy a good deal of caution had to be exercised. Thus the soldiers did not see His Majesty on a charger but they watched him and the Prince of Wales, with a few attend ants, crawl almost on hands and knees through rows of beets, and as it was a clayey field one can imagine the condition of the Royal party when they emerged. However, the soldier? thought all the more of the King and his son that they should have put themselves into such danger and un dergciie much personal discomfort tc visit them.
