§! CONTROLLED BY fGOVERNMEJNTI I £ ENABLING BILL UNOPPOSED. I Press Association—Copyright. | (Reed 10 a.m.) j SYDNEY, Feb 12. I Mr Holmau, in introducing an Emerigency Bill to secure control of meat supplies in New South Wales for purposes of the Imperial Army, should occasion arise, explained that Mr | Strickland, had received a cable from 1 the Imperial authorities stating that in view of a largely increased demand for army purchases by the French Government, it was advisable to prevent an excessive advance in the price of Australian meats. England desired to secure the whole of the Australian meat that was available for export during the continuance of the war. He asked New South Wales to co-operate with a similar action already taken in Queensland. The Bill introduced, which was similar to that ci Queensland, provided for the seizure of stock compensation for the same would be paid by valuation. The Beard to have full powers even where , previous contracts were in existence. The price paid though, would usually be higher than the contracts price, but would be absolutely fixed by the Board in order to avoid bogus contracts made ( cr the purpose of obtaining higher prices Mr Holman invited them tc show loyalty to the Imperial Government in the hour of crisis; he believed the British Government was only pro tecting itself against emergencies which might arise in future. We are prepared to stand behind the Empire with the last man and the last shilling. The Bill passed all its stages unopposed. ;■-— -~
