SELFISHNESS OF CHILDREN. Des Moines has learned that its school pupils are selfish. Ten thousand above the fifth grade indicted themselves in essays they wrote to show their educational progress. "How I would spend 100 dols," was the subject. J. W. Studebaker, superintendent,scored the papers, which were limited to 100 words. Barely 2 per cent. oi' the pupils volunteered to spend a cent for other than luxuries for themselves. Heme and mother were forgotten by all but a few. The purchasing value of 100 dols. was exaggerated. Some even wrote of buying motoroars, taking. Eastern trips, and the like.
