Strong military action is pending in connection with drunkenness in Melbourne troops. Mr Pearce stated there were ’a number of men in uniform whose conduct was a nuisance to the public, and they had no right to be wearing the uniform, having been discharged from tlie ranks. It was the intenteion of the authorities that these men should he cleared. For unlawfully wearing His Majesty’s uniform they should be arrested and prosecuted. TRIPOLI INTRIGUERS ARRESTED. (Reed. 9.20 a.m.) CAIRO, Feb. 9. Sulimam el Barums, a well-known Tripoli agitator and others were discovered intriguing against Egypt, and were arrested by the Grand Senussi. In a further notice referring to the wo cl embargo, Mr. Tudor stated he was unable to indicate when it would be relaxed. Dissatisfaction is existing' between members of the newly-formed Boxers’ Union, who claimed thirty per cent, of the gross takings of each combatant. Mr. Baker, manager of the Stadium. Arthur Adams, the New Zealand author, has just had two plays accepted —“Mrs. Pretty and the Premier,” by Arthur Bourchier, London; and a children’s play by Beaumont Smith for Australasian production. A movement is afoot in Labour ranks to restore Sydney Government House, shorn of a portion cf the grounds, as a residence for the Governor, and to erect a suite of special apartments alongside for the use of the Governor-General when visiting' Sydney. Archbishop Cerretti, the Papal Delegate, explains that the object of the creati 0 n cf a new Apostolic Delegation extending over Australia and New Zealand is hot to set up a new ecclesiastical authority, but to bring Australasian Catholics into closer touch with the supreme authority, the Holy See. He had come to work with the bishops. Amongst the advantages of the Delegation, diocesan and parochial affairs and controversies would be settled locally instead of going to Rome. Ar c hbishop Cerretti will reside permanently in Sydney, paying periodical visits to other parts of Australasia. He will appoint the Rev. Dr. Ormond, - : Auckland, his- private- secretary.
